Delhi Metro Foundation Day

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation celebrated its 32nd Foundation Day at Bharat Mandapam, highlighting its journey as a backbone of urban mobility in the national capital while outlining future expansion plans.

The event was attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu, along with senior officials and international partners.

Leadership and Global Participation

The summit saw the presence of key figures, including Katikithala Srinivas, Chairman of DMRC, and Vikas Kumar, Managing Director. Representatives from the Embassy of Japan and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) also attended, reaffirming their continued support in Delhi Metro’s development.

Recognising Excellence

As part of the celebrations, DMRC honoured outstanding employees and teams through its Annual Awards:

  • Metro Woman of the Year: Sushma Yadav
  • Metro Man of the Year: Harendra Kumar
  • Best Metro Station: Lajpat Nagar
  • Best Metro Depot: Najafgarh Depot
  • Rajbhasha Award: Rajesh Kumar Sharma

These recognitions reflect the organisation’s focus on operational excellence and employee dedication.

Expansion Plans Gain Momentum

In a major announcement, Rekha Gupta said that while work on Phase 4 and Phase 5A corridors is progressing, preparations have begun for seven new corridors under Phase 5B.

Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, in his message, noted that metro rail networks across India have expanded significantly, with over 1,150 km operational in 26 cities.

A Legacy of Urban Transformation

Since starting operations in 2002, the Delhi Metro has transformed daily commuting for millions across Delhi-NCR, offering a reliable, safe, and eco-friendly mode of transport.
