2nd Global Hydrogen & Renewable Energy Summit,

Kovalam, Kerala: The 2nd Global Hydrogen & Renewable Energy Summit, hosted by the Government of Kerala through its nodal agencies- The Agency for New and Renewable Energy Research and Technology (ANERT), Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) and Energy Management Centre Kerala, and Elets Technomedia as the Knowledge Partner, brought together policymakers, industry leaders, innovators, and energy experts to discuss the future of renewable energy and hydrogen in India.

The summit featured discussion panels on topics including India’s green hydrogen economy, high-renewable grids, financing decarbonisation, hydrogen corridors, future power systems, and skilling for a net-zero future.

Delivering the welcome address, Dr Ravi Gupta, CEO, Founder, Publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Elets Technomedia, highlighted the growing importance of renewable energy for India’s sustainable development. He noted that reducing dependence on conventional fuels and addressing climate challenges requires continuous dialogue and collaboration among policymakers, industry leaders, and innovators.

In his opening remarks, Shri Rahul Krishna Sharma, IAS, CEO, ANERT, emphasised the importance of partnerships in advancing renewable energy deployment. He noted that alignment between policy, investment, and technological development is critical for scaling renewable energy projects and ensuring effective implementation.

Delivering the keynote address, Shri K.R. Jyothilal, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance & Taxes Department, Government of Kerala, highlighted the vast potential of hydrogen as a clean energy resource. He observed that the world currently utilises only a small fraction of hydrogen’s energy potential, roughly one unit out of 6000, and discussed innovative approaches such as converting wastewater into fresh water for hydrogen production.

Keynote speaker Shri Jitendra Srivastava, IAS, Chairman & Managing Director, REC Limited, highlighted the role of financial institutions in supporting energy infrastructure. He shared that REC has extended around ₹2100 crore to the Kerala State Electricity Board and approximately ₹2300 crore to the distribution sector, along with financing ₹1100 crore for Kannur International Airport and about ₹2000 crore for the Kerala Infrastructure Investment Fund Board (KIIFB).

In a video address, Shri S. Suhas, IAS, Managing Director, Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL), highlighted that since 2015, CIAL has been recognised as the world’s first fully solar-powered airport, reducing nearly 66,000 tonnes of carbon emissions annually, equivalent to planting about three million trees. He also shared that CIAL, in partnership with BPCL, is establishing one of the first green hydrogen fueling stations at the airport.

Speaking at the summit, Shri Neeraj Semwal, IAS, Secretary – Power, Government of NCT of Delhi, noted that as renewable energy integration increases, effective demand management and expanded energy storage will be crucial for maintaining grid reliability.

Shri Vishnudeep Panicker, Senior Manager, Cochin Shipyard Limited, gave a presentation, highlighting the development and trials of India’s first indigenously developed hydrogen fuel cell vessel.

The conference saw vibrant participation of leading central and state PSUs, such as Bharat Petroleum Corporation, Cochin Shipyard, Cochin International Airport, REC, IOCL, K-DISC, ASAP Kerala, etc. A number of prominent industries, such as Reliance Green Energy, Fluitron, Green H2 Next, Naxion Energy, etc. and industry associations such as KREEPA also participated in the event.
