India and the Czech Republic have agreed to deepen cooperation in defence manufacturing, with a focus on advancing the Make in India initiative and Aatmanirbhar Bharat. The decision was reached during a meeting between Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Czech Republic Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Karel Havlíček in New Delhi on Tuesday.

The discussions covered ongoing defence industry partnerships, existing joint ventures and opportunities to strengthen collaboration in domestic manufacturing and defence technology.
Focus on Joint Ventures and Domestic Manufacturing
The two leaders reviewed the current state of defence industrial cooperation and welcomed progress made through existing partnerships, including the establishment of several joint ventures.

They agreed to explore ways to expand these ties further, with the India-Czech Joint Defence Committee serving as an important platform for continued engagement. The cooperation is expected to support India’s efforts to strengthen domestic defence production and reduce dependence on imports.
Discussions on Peace and Regional Security

The meeting also covered issues concerning peace and security. Both sides recognised the importance of closer cooperation in addressing shared concerns and supporting regional stability.
Rajnath Singh and Havlíček also reaffirmed the importance of the longstanding relationship between India and the Czech Republic, which is supported by historical and cultural connections, mutual trust and respect.
Czech Deputy Prime Minister on a Four-Day Visit
Havlíček is visiting India for four days and is scheduled to meet representatives from various ministries, businesses and trade organisations. His itinerary also includes visits to Bengaluru and Mumbai, where he will tour industrial facilities.
The visit provides an opportunity for both countries to engage with industry stakeholders and identify areas for deeper economic and industrial collaboration.
