T.N. Natarajan

Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has appointed T.N. Natarajan as its new Director (Commercial), effective March 19, following his nomination by the Government of India and approval from the company’s Board.

Natarajan’s elevation marks an important leadership move for SAIL, especially at a time when the company is focusing on strengthening its market presence and improving commercial performance.

Before this appointment, he was serving as Chief General Manager in SAIL. His journey with the company began in 1993, when he joined as a Management Trainee at Bhilai Steel Plant. Over the years, he has built a strong career spanning more than three decades, gaining experience across production, logistics, and sales.

Much of his work has been closely linked with SAIL’s Central Marketing Organisation, where he handled key roles in cities such as Bengaluru, Chennai, and Trichy. Most recently, he served as Regional Manager (Western Region), where he played a significant role in expanding the company’s market footprint.

Natarajan has been credited with driving market expansion and customer engagement, while also helping SAIL move towards high-value segments like fabrication, pre-engineered buildings, and oil and gas. His approach has focused on building stronger relationships with customers and offering more solution-oriented services rather than just product-based selling.

One of his notable contributions includes leading initiatives such as the establishment of SAIL’s first Ready-to-Use TMT service centre at Kalamboli, which aimed to improve service delivery and convenience for customers.

According to the company, his leadership has contributed to improving market share, enhancing profitability, and strengthening the SAIL brand, along with promoting a more customer-centric and performance-driven work culture.

With his appointment as Director (Commercial), Natarajan is expected to play a key role in shaping SAIL’s commercial strategy, expanding its presence in competitive markets, and driving growth in value-added steel segments.
