In an important leadership development for Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVNL), the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Satyabrata Mukherjee for the post of Chairman & Managing Director (CMD).
Mukherjee was selected after the PESB interviewed two candidates for the position. His appointment will now move forward subject to the required clearances and approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
At present, Satyabrata Mukherjee is serving as Director (Operations), Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited. His recommendation comes at a time when the post of CMD at AVNL is vacant, making this an important step in filling the top leadership role at the company.
AVNL is a significant public sector undertaking in India’s defence manufacturing ecosystem, and the CMD’s role is crucial in guiding operations, production, and long-term strategy. Mukherjee’s current position within the company means he already has direct experience with AVNL’s functioning, which could help ensure continuity in leadership.

His recommendation is being seen as a positive development for the organisation, especially at a time when India is placing greater emphasis on strengthening domestic defence production and improving self-reliance in the sector.
If approved, Mukherjee will take charge of AVNL at a time when defence PSUs are expected to play a bigger role in supporting modernisation, operational readiness, and indigenous manufacturing capabilities.
