Anupam Misra Selected for CMD Post at Hindustan Copper

In an important leadership development for Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), the Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Anupam Misra for the post of Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of the company.

Misra was selected after interviews conducted by the PESB, where a total of five candidates were considered for the top post. His appointment will, however, be subject to the necessary clearances and approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).

At present, Anupam Misra is serving as Director (Marketing) at The Fertilisers And Chemicals Travancore Limited (FACT). With this recommendation, he is set to take over the leadership of Hindustan Copper after the retirement of current CMD Sanjiv Kumar Singh, who is scheduled to retire on 30 June 2026.

The recommendation marks a significant step in the succession process at Hindustan Copper, a major public sector company in India’s mining and metals sector. Leadership at the CMD level is especially important for a company like HCL, which plays a strategic role in copper production and resource development.

Misra’s background in a senior leadership role at FACT is expected to add valuable management and commercial experience to Hindustan Copper. If his appointment is formally cleared, he will be taking charge at a time when the mining and metals sector is becoming increasingly important for industrial growth, infrastructure expansion, and resource security.

For Hindustan Copper, the transition is likely to be closely watched, as the company continues to remain important in India’s broader push for self-reliance in critical minerals and metal resources.

Overall, the PESB recommendation signals the beginning of a new leadership chapter for Hindustan Copper, with Anupam Misra emerging as the chosen candidate for the top post.
