State-owned engineering major Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) on Wednesday said it has secured a large power project order valued between ₹1,200 crore and ₹1,500 crore from Hindalco Industries.
The company said it has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) for the project from Aditya Aluminium, a subsidiary of Hindalco Industries. The order relates to the execution of a 2 x 150 MW boiler-turbine-generator (BTG) package, taking the total installed capacity to 300 MW.
According to BHEL, the scope of work includes design, engineering, manufacturing, supply to site, unloading and storage, erection, commissioning, and performance guarantee testing of the BTG package. Civil works are excluded from the contract.
The project will be implemented at Lapanga in Sambalpur district of Odisha and is expected to be completed over a period of around three years, the company said in a regulatory filing.
The order adds to BHEL’s power sector order book at a time when industrial captive power projects are gaining momentum alongside grid-based capacity additions. Officials said the contract reflects continued confidence in BHEL’s execution capabilities for large thermal power equipment.
BHEL, which operates under the Ministry of Heavy Industries, is one of India’s largest engineering and manufacturing enterprises. The company has a strong presence across power generation, transmission, transportation, renewables, water, defence and aerospace, and oil and gas, and remains a key supplier of power equipment in both domestic and international markets.

The latest order is expected to contribute to BHEL’s revenue visibility over the medium term while strengthening its footprint in industrial power solutions.
