The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) has recommended Rajneesh Narain for the post of Director (Finance) at Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited (IRCTC), one of India’s leading public sector undertakings in rail tourism, catering and online ticketing.
The recommendation was made after a selection meeting held on Wednesday, during which the PESB interviewed eight candidates for the top finance role. Following the recommendation, Narain’s appointment will be subject to the usual vigilance clearances and final approval from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC).
At present, the position of Director (Finance) at IRCTC is vacant. Once approved, Narain is expected to take charge of the critical role that oversees financial planning, budgeting, investments, and overall fiscal management of the PSU.
Currently, Rajneesh Narain is serving as Director (Finance) at Northern Coalfields Limited, where he has been handling key responsibilities related to financial strategy, resource allocation and compliance. His experience in managing finances at a large PSU is seen as a strong asset for IRCTC, which has witnessed steady growth in revenues from catering services, tourism packages and digital ticketing platforms.

Officials said the selection reflects PESB’s confidence in Narain’s professional expertise and leadership in financial management. If cleared by the ACC, his appointment is expected to strengthen IRCTC’s financial governance at a time when the company continues to expand its services and modernise its operations.
IRCTC plays a pivotal role in Indian Railways’ passenger-facing services, and the Director (Finance) position is considered crucial for ensuring financial discipline, transparency and sustainable growth.
