The Bihar government has approved a major push to strengthen rural connectivity, clearing 72 road projects aimed at linking villages with essential services such as hospitals, schools, banks, markets, and tourist destinations.
The initiative is being implemented under the Accessible Connectivity Plan (Sulah Samparkta Yojana), which focuses on building all-weather roads to ensure smooth access from rural habitations to key administrative and service centres.
65 Projects Approved, Work Underway
For the financial year 2025–26, 72 rural road projects have been identified, of which 65 have already received administrative approval. The total estimated investment for these works is over ₹515 crore.
Officials said construction has already begun on 13 projects, with the remaining works expected to be taken up in phases. Once completed, these roads will connect villages to National Highways, State Highways, and major district roads, significantly improving mobility and access to public services.
Coverage Across 24 Districts
The programme spans 24 districts and involves the construction of 254.40 kilometres of rural roads. Patna district has the highest number of projects, with 20 roads covering 25.115 km, followed by Lakhisarai with 14 projects.

The selection has been made to ensure that remote villages are directly connected to healthcare facilities, educational institutions, commercial centres, and administrative offices.
Boost to Rural Development
Officials said the improved road network will make daily travel easier for villagers, enable quicker access to medical care and education, and support economic activities by linking rural markets with larger trade corridors. Better connectivity is also expected to encourage tourism in areas with cultural and natural attractions.
