As many as 38 senior civil servants, including 20 Indian Administrative Service officers and 18 Indian Police Service officers, retired in January 2026. The officers belonged to multiple state cadres and batches, marking the end of long administrative and policing tenures across the country.
The retirements covered several cadres and led to changes in senior-level postings in state governments and police forces.
Among the Indian Administrative Service officers who retired in January 2026 were Ritu Raj Bora and Indreswar Kalita from the Assam–Meghalaya cadre. The Bihar cadre saw the retirement of Dinesh Kumar Rai, Minendra Kumar and Satyendra Kumar Singh. From Himachal Pradesh, Rakhil Kahlon and Vinod Kumar retired, while Iqbal Singh Chahal from the Maharashtra cadre also superannuated during the month.
The list also included Tarep Imchen from Nagaland, G Mathivathanan from Odisha, and Ajoy Kumar Singh and Dilraj Singh from Punjab. Rajasthan recorded the retirement of Shubhra Singh, Rajendra Vijay and Arun Kumar Purohit. Md Moslem Uddin Ahmed from Tripura also retired. From Uttar Pradesh, Shailendra Kumar Singh, Amar Nath Upadhayay and Ram Singh Verma retired, while Satyajit Sen from West Bengal was also among those who superannuated.
In the Indian Police Service, Andhra Pradesh cadre officers Anjani Kumar and G Pala Raju retired in January 2026. From the AGMUT cadre, Shashi Bhushan Kumar Singh and Nuzhat Hassan retired. Dilnawaz Ahmad from the Bihar cadre and Jagdish Dawar from the Madhya Pradesh cadre were also on the list.
Maharashtra cadre IPS officer S G Wayse Patil and Rajasthan cadre officer Anil Kumar Tank retired, along with Abhay Kumar Singh from the Tamil Nadu cadre. Uttar Pradesh cadre officers Rajesh Kumar Singh and Babita Sahu also superannuated during the month. From Uttarakhand, Safi Ahsan Rizvi and N S Napalchyal retired, while West Bengal cadre officers Rajeev Kumar, Ranveer Kumar, Rajesh Kumar, Jag Mohan and Debabrata Das also retired.
The retirement of these officers resulted in routine administrative and police reshuffles across several states. Vacancies at senior levels were filled through promotions and new postings in the weeks following their superannuation.
