Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the new terminal building at Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport in Guwahati, Assam, built at a cost of ₹4,000 crore.
The newly inaugurated terminal is designed to significantly enhance passenger handling capacity and improve travel experience at the airport, which serves as the main aviation gateway to the Northeast. The expansion comes amid rising air traffic in the region and growing demand for better connectivity.
According to officials, the terminal features modern passenger amenities, upgraded security systems, and improved operational infrastructure. The project is part of the Centre’s broader push to strengthen aviation infrastructure and regional connectivity under its civil aviation expansion plans.
The Guwahati airport plays a strategic role in connecting northeastern states with major cities across India and select international destinations. The new terminal is expected to support increased flight operations and facilitate smoother passenger movement.
An official associated with the project said, “The new terminal will help meet future traffic growth while improving efficiency and comfort for travellers.”
