In a major push to position Karnataka as a global semiconductor powerhouse, the state cabinet sub-committee, chaired by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, approved three landmark semiconductor projects today. These initiatives represent a cumulative investment of over ₹23,000 crore and promise to generate more than 3,500 high-value jobs across Bengaluru and Mysuru.
Applied Materials India will establish the country’s first-of-its-kind R&D Fab—Innovation Centre for Semiconductor Manufacturing (ICSM)—in Bengaluru. Spanning 10 acres with an investment of ₹4,851 crore, the facility will focus on next-generation chip and display technologies, creating around 1,500 jobs.

Lam Research will set up two units: a ₹6,790 crore advanced R&D lab and a ₹9,111 crore semiconductor silicon component manufacturing facility, together generating 1,400 jobs and enabling breakthroughs in 2nm technology and silicon ingot production.

Bharat Semi Systems will invest ₹2,342 crore to build an integrated design and manufacturing unit in Mysuru focused on compound semiconductors like silicon carbide and gallium nitride—key to defence, telecom, and climate-resilient technologies—creating over 620 jobs.

These strategic investments mark a transformative moment for India’s semiconductor journey, with Karnataka at the forefront.
