In a major administrative overhaul aimed at bolstering the state’s internal security and administrative efficiency, the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar Government has transferred 17 IPS officers, appointing them to key positions across various departments of the state police.

Among the most prominent changes is the appointment of 1995 batch IPS officer Pankaj Kumar Darad as Additional Director General (ADG), Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS). He will also retain his existing responsibilities as ADG (Law & Order) and ADG, Special Surveillance Department, underscoring his pivotal role in Bihar’s law enforcement structure.

1996 batch IPS officer Dr. Amit Kumar Jain, currently serving as ADG, CID (Weaker Sections), has been assigned additional charge as ADG, Prohibition. The move highlights the state’s continued focus on enforcing its stringent prohibition laws.

In another strategic posting, 2002 batch IPS officer Rakesh Rathi, who was previously IG, Cyber Crime under the Economic Offences Unit (EOU), has now been appointed Inspector General, Special Branch, Patna — a key intelligence and internal security unit.

Other notable reshuffles include:

  • Ranjit Kumar Mishra, now IG (Training), in addition to his role with the State Armed Forces (SAF).
  • Babu Ram posted as DIG, Bihar SAF (North), Muzaffarpur.
  • Tauheed Pervez appointed DIG, CID.
  • Rajendra Kumar Bhil named DIG (Personnel).
  • Rajiv Mishra entrusted with an additional charge as DIG, Prohibition.

At the commandant level, 2012 batch IPS officer Deepak Ranjan takes charge of both BSAP-3 and BSAP-17 battalions in Bodhgaya — a location of religious prominence and strategic interest.

Key changes at the SP and equivalent ranks include:

  • Rajiv Ranjan-I transferred to the Economic Offences Unit (EOU), Patna.
  • Veena Kumari appointed as SP, Rail, Muzaffarpur.
  • Ashok Kumar Prasad designated as Assistant Inspector General (AIG), Training, Patna.
