Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (Trifed)

In a major push to boost economic opportunities for tribal communities, the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India (Trifed) has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with Meesho, the Indian Federation of Culinary Associations (IFCA), and the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Rural Industrialisation (MGIRI).

The agreements, signed on 18 February 2025 during the Aadi Mahotsav at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi, aim to shift tribal enterprises from a Business-to-Consumer (B2C) model to a Business-to-Business (B2B) framework, expanding their market reach and strengthening capacity-building initiatives.

Expanding Market Access and Capacity Building

  • Meesho will onboard tribal products onto its social commerce platform, providing digital exposure and training for online selling.
  • IFCA will connect tribal businesses with hotels, restaurants, and culinary professionals to promote tribal food products.
  • MGIRI will serve as a knowledge partner, conducting training programs and enhancing skills for tribal artisans to promote sustainable rural industrialization.

The MoUs were exchanged between Trifed General Managers and key representatives: Prachi Bhuchar (Meesho), Chef Manjit Gill (IFCA), and Dr. Ashutosh A. Murkute (MGIRI). The event was attended by Trifed Managing Director Ashish Chatterjee, who highlighted the significance of these collaborations in fostering economic empowerment for tribal communities.

Aadi Mahotsav 2025, inaugurated by President of India Droupadi Murmu on 16 February, features tribal crafts, culture, cuisine, and commerce under the theme “A Celebration of the Spirit of Entrepreneurship, Tribal Craft, Culture, Cuisine, and Commerce.” The event also witnessed participation from Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram, MoS Tribal Affairs Durga Das Uikey, and Member of Parliament Bansuri Swaraj.
