Dinesh T. Waghmare

Senior IAS officer Dinesh T. Waghmare has been appointed as the Maharashtra State Election Commissioner. His appointment, confirmed by the Governor of Maharashtra, adheres to the provisions of Article 243-K and Article 243-ZA of the Constitution of India, as well as the Maharashtra State Election Commissioner (Qualifications and Appointment) Act, 1994.

A 1994-batch IAS officer, Waghmare will serve a non-renewable five-year term, effective from January 20, 2025, or the date he officially assumes office.

In this capacity, he will oversee the superintendence, direction, and control of electoral roll preparation and the conduct of elections for local bodies across Maharashtra. These include Zilla Parishads, Panchayat Samitees, Gram Panchayats, Municipal Corporations, and Municipal Councils.

Previously, Waghmare served as the Principal Secretary in the Medical Education and Drugs department, while also holding an additional charge of the Employment Guarantee Scheme.

The appointment order was issued by Manisha Patankar-Mhaiskar, Additional Chief Secretary and Chief Protocol Officer to the Maharashtra Government.
