Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has partnered with Fourth Partner Energy Limited (FPEL) to establish two renewable energy facilities in Tamil Nadu. This initiative is a strategic step towards HMIL’s commitment to achieving 100% renewable power across its operations by 2025, aligning with the global RE100 initiative. Currently, HMIL has reached 63% of this target.
The RE100 initiative, led by the Climate Group, unites ambitious global companies in their pursuit of adopting 100% renewable electricity. To solidify this collaboration, HMIL has signed a 25-year power purchase agreement (PPA) and a shareholder agreement with FPEL. As part of this deal, HMIL will invest ₹380 million (approximately $4.5 million) in the construction of these renewable energy sites. HMIL will own a 26% stake in the project, while FPEL will hold the majority 74%.
The project will comprise a 75MW solar site and a 43MW wind farm, which will be managed under a special purpose vehicle (SPV) created to oversee the engineering, procurement, construction, and maintenance. These facilities are expected to generate over 250 million units of renewable electricity annually, significantly reducing carbon emissions by approximately 200,000 tons per year.

Gopalakrishnan Chathapuram Sivaramakrishnan, Whole-Time Director and Chief Manufacturing Officer of HMIL, highlighted the importance of this milestone. “This partnership underscores our commitment to sustainability and marks a crucial step in achieving the RE100 benchmark by 2025.”
The collaboration not only strengthens HMIL’s sustainability efforts but also contributes significantly to India’s renewable energy targets, showcasing a model of corporate responsibility and environmental stewardship.
