Senior IAS officer Dharmendra, from the 1989 batch of the AGMUT cadre, has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Delhi, effective from September 1 or the date of his joining, according to a Union Ministry of Home Affairs order. Dharmendra, currently serving as the Chief Secretary of Arunachal Pradesh, will succeed Naresh Kumar, whose tenure ends on August 31 after receiving two previous extensions.
Dharmendra, who holds a B.Tech in Civil Engineering, has a notable career, having previously chaired the New Delhi Municipal Council and served in various capacities within the Delhi government. His appointment comes just five months before the Delhi Assembly elections, at a time when the Delhi government is in a power struggle with the Lieutenant Governor.
