Agriculture & Steel Ministry get new Secretary, 6 IAS of 1993 batch promoted to Special Secretary rank

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) executed a significant secretary-level reshuffle on Tuesday evening. Six IAS officers from the 1993 batch were elevated in situ as Special Secretaries, attaining the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India.


Devesh Chaturvedi (IAS: 1989: UP) has been appointed Secretary of the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, succeeding Manoj Ahuja (IAS: 1990: OD), who recently returned to his cadre as Chief Secretary of Odisha. Additionally, Sandeep Pondrik (IAS: 1993: BH) has been named Secretary of the Ministry of Steel, replacing Nagendra Nath Sinha (IAS: 1987: JH), who retired on July 31, 2024.

The IAS officers from the 1993 batch promoted to Special Secretary with the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India are as follows:

  • Anurag Agarwal (IAS: 1990: PB) is the Special Secretary and Financial Advisor of the Ministry of External Affairs.
  • Chandra Sekhar Kumar (IAS: 1992: OD): Special Secretary, Ministry of Panchayati Raj.
  • Punya Salila Srivastava (IAS: 1993: AGMUT): Special Secretary, Prime Minister’s Office.
  • Tanmay Kumar (IAS: 1993: RJ) is the Special Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change.
  • Amit Agrawal (IAS: 1993: CG): Chief Executive Officer, Unique Identification Authority of India.
  • Deepti Gaur Mukherjee (IAS: 1993: MP): Chief Executive Officer, National Health Authority, with the post restored to Secretary level.
