
In a significant pre-Independence Day development, the Nitish Kumar-led Bihar government has promoted 20 officers from the Bihar Administrative Service (BAS) to the esteemed Indian Administrative Service (IAS). The Central Government’s Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions issued the official notification on Monday, formalizing the promotions.
The officers, all from the 39th batch of the BAS, have been recognized for their outstanding service. Their initial postings as IAS officers will be as Joint Secretaries in various departments, signalling a new phase in their careers.
Prominent among those promoted are:

- Dr. Nandlal Arya: Personal Secretary to the Minister of Information and Technology, Santosh Kumar Suman.
- Rajesh Kumar Singh: Personal Secretary to the Minister of Sugarcane, Krishnanandan Paswan.
- Rajneesh Kumar Singh: Director of Prisons.
- Dr. Rajesh Bharti: Additional Director, along with Mrityunjay Kumar and Sujit Kumar.
- Rajesh Kumar Singh, Rakesh Ranjan, Sanjay Kumar, Shambhu Sharan: Key contributors in various administrative roles.
- Ahmed Mahmood, Vinayak Mishra, Suman Kumar, and Kumar Mangalam: Recognised for their dedication to public service.
- Waris Khan, Akhilesh Kumar Singh, Atul Kumar Verma: Notable figures in state administration.

This latest round of promotions is part of a continuing trend observed in recent years. In 2023, 54 BAS officers were elevated to the IAS, filling vacancies from the preceding three years. With this recent batch, the vacancies for 2023 have now been addressed.
