Enforcement Directorate (ED)

In a new development, the Government has promoted 11 Enforcement Directorate (ED) cadre officers to the rank of Joint Director (JD). This marks the first occasion that such a significant number of cadre officers have been elevated to the JD level simultaneously.

The Department of Revenue under the Union Finance Ministry issued the promotion order on May 28, advancing these officers from the deputy director to JD rank. The JD position is a critical administrative role in the ED, responsible for supervising investigations related to money laundering and foreign exchange violations.

The ED maintains over 30 JD posts, including positions in 27 zonal offices nationwide. Currently, only three of these posts are held by ED cadre officers, with the majority occupied by Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officers on deputation.
