Agra Metro Rail

Agra, famed for the iconic Taj Mahal, braces for a new chapter in modern connectivity as the Agra Metro Rail Service is set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi tomorrow, March 6, 2024. The city joins the thriving Metro Rail network as the 21st city in India to do so.

India’s metro systems span 27 cities, witnessing a daily ridership of nearly 1 crore people across a network of 905 kilometers in 20 cities. An additional 958 kilometers are under construction, reflecting the nation’s commitment to bolstering public transportation infrastructure.

The Agra Metro project has made exceptional progress, with approximately 6 kilometers of the metro network completed monthly, marking a significant achievement in urban transportation. It is poised to serve Agra’s 26 lakh residents and approximately 60 lakh annual tourists, connecting major railway stations, bus depots, colleges, markets, and tourist destinations through its two corridors totaling 29.4 km.

Agra will become the sixth city in Uttar Pradesh to boast a Metro network, following successful projects in Noida, Greater Noida, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, and Kanpur. With Agra being the state’s fourth most populous city, the Metro will contribute to its development.

The UP Metro Rail Corporation, known for its swift project implementation, set records in Lucknow and Kanpur. In Lucknow, the North-South Corridor commenced operations 36 days ahead of schedule, with the CCS Airport Metro Station earning a place in the prestigious “Limca Book of Records.” In Kanpur, a 9-kilometer elevated corridor was completed within 2 years and 2 months, with ongoing work covering two corridors totaling 32.5 kilometers.
