Yogi Adityanath inaugurates Agra Metro

The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Shri Yogi Adityanath, today inaugurated the high-speed train trial of the Agra Metro. The inauguration ceremony was held at the Taj East Gate Metro Station, signifying a remarkable milestone in the progress of the Agra Metro Rail Project.

During the inauguration, CM Yogi expressed his pride in announcing the commencement of the high-speed trials for the Agra Metro. He praised the diligent efforts of Team Agra Metro for executing the project with exceptional precision and within the stipulated timeline.

Highlighting the broader impact of this development, he emphasized that Uttar Pradesh holds the distinction of having the highest number of cities with operational metro services. Agra will soon join the ranks as the sixth metro city, providing numerous employment opportunities, bolstering tourism, and enhancing the city’s global recognition.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) is working tirelessly to achieve its target six months ahead of schedule. Originally scheduled for August 2024, the team at UPMRC is now aiming to make the metro services operational for the people of Agra by February 2024.

Sushil Kumar, Managing Director of UPMRC, reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to timely project execution. He expressed confidence that the Agra Metro will be delivered to the city’s residents well ahead of the designated timeline, ensuring a world-class metro experience.

The Agra Metro has been undergoing trials, starting with low-speed tests at the Agra Metro Depot. With the commencement of the High-Speed trials, the focus shifts to the 3 km long elevated viaduct with three elevated stations, forming part of the 6 km long priority stretch on the first corridor, connecting Taj East Gate Metro Station to Jama Masjid Metro Station.

A notable aspect of the Agra Metro Rail Project is its two corridors, spanning a total length of 29.4 kms. The first corridor from Taj East Gate to Sikandra spans 13.7 kms, comprising six elevated and seven underground stations. The second corridor, running from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar, spans 15.7 kms and consists entirely of elevated tracks, featuring 14 metro stations.

The Agra Metro trains boast a range of modern features, with their design unveiled by Hon’ble Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on August 8, 2022. Equipped with a regenerative braking system, these trains can save up to 35 percent of energy. Additionally, the incorporation of carbon dioxide-based sensors enhances energy efficiency, ensuring a comfortable environment for passengers even during peak travel times.

Operating from the state-of-the-art Agra Metro depot, the trains will operate in automated CBTC mode (Communication Based Train Control), ensuring the utmost safety and efficiency of train operations. This remarkable advancement promises to revolutionize public transportation in Agra, benefitting residents and visitors alike.
