In a significant milestone, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of Madhya Pradesh officially kicked off the trial run of the Bhopal Metro train on Tuesday at Subhash Nagar in the city. This momentous event was marked by a ceremonial worship before giving the green signal for the metro’s trial operation. CM Chouhan himself took a ride on the metro train, personally inspecting the arrangements and facilities in place. The inauguration was attended by a distinguished gathering of public representatives, senior officials, and prominent citizens of the city.

Ahead of signalling the commencement of metro operations, Chief Minister Chouhan expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “A new era of transportation is dawning upon Bhopal. We have fulfilled our promises, and today, the metro stands ready for its trial run. Madhya Pradesh, once plagued by potholes, is now a state with a thriving metro system.”

CM Chouhan further elaborated on the expansive plans for the metro, asserting, “The metro’s reach will extend beyond the city, connecting Mandideep and Sehore, and if necessary, it may even stretch to Vidisha.”

Commending the rapid progress in metro construction, he continued, “I applaud the entire team for their swift work in bringing this metro project to fruition. The metro represents safe, automated travel, eliminating the fear of road accidents and ensuring the safety of elderly passengers and women.”

Highlighting the benefits of the metro system, Chouhan emphasised, “It offers convenience by reducing travel time, promises a comfortable journey with top-notch amenities, and is cost-effective compared to four-wheelers and other modes of transportation. Additionally, it adds to the city’s beauty.”

Speaking about the metro’s inclusivity, the Chief Minister remarked, “The metro signifies equality, welcoming passengers from all walks of life. Whether you own a car or a two-wheeler, the metro is accessible to everyone.”

The Bhopal Metro project encompasses a total route of 31 kilometers and is being executed with an estimated budget of Rs 6,940 crore. This ambitious initiative aims to revolutionise urban transportation in the city, offering a sustainable and efficient mode of travel for its residents.
