Following the reorganisation of the Tamil Nadu Cabinet on Thursday, the State administration on Saturday made significant changes by transferring a number of important IAS officers. The transfers came amidst speculations over the past few days about an impending transfer of IAS officers.

T. Udhayachandran, Secretary I to the Chief Minister, was among the key officials who were transferred. He was posted as Principal Secretary to the Finance Department. The current Finance Secretary, N. Muruganandam, was appointed as the Chief Minister’s Secretary I. Soon after M.K. Stalin assumed leadership as Chief Minister in May 2021, Mr. Udhayachandran was chosen to serve as his Secretary 1. Since November 2021, Mr. Muruganandam has served as the finance secretary.

Gagandeep Singh Bedi, who was chosen to serve as the Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) Commissioner immediately after the current administration took office, has been moved and assigned the position of Principal Secretary in the Department of Health and Family Welfare. The new additional chief secretary for cooperation, food and consumer protection will be J. Radhakrishnan.

P. Amudha, formerly the Principal Secretary of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department, was another important official who was transferred. She was serving as the Principal Secretary of the Home, Prohibition and Excise Department. Ms. Amudha is the fourth woman to occupy that post. Santha Sheela Nair was the first woman to become the Home Secretary of Tamil Nadu. She held the post from 1999 to 2001. S. Malathi served as the Home Secretary between 2007 and 2010. Sheela Rani Chunkath served briefly in the post in 2011.

Mr. P. Senthilkumar, the current Principal Secretary of the Health and Family Welfare Department, will take over from Ms. Amudha as the Principal Secretary of the Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Department. Mr. K. Phanindra Reddy, who is currently serving as the Additional Chief Secretary of the Home, Prohibition and Excise Department, has been transferred and appointed as the Secretary of the Transport Department.

Mr. K. Gopal, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Transport Department, will assume the role of Vigilance Commissioner and Commissioner for Administrative Reforms. Previously, these positions were held on an additional charge basis by Mr. Shiv Das Meena, who is currently the Additional Chief Secretary of the Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department.

Mr. K. Manivasan, who is currently the Principal Secretary of the Public Works Department (PWD), will become the new Principal Secretary of the Tourism, Culture, and Religious Endowments Department. He will take over from Mr. B. Chandra Mohan, who has been appointed as the Principal Secretary of the PWD.

D. Jagannathan, who was serving as Secretary of the Public and Rehabilitation Department, has been reassigned as Secretary of the Cooperation, Food, and Consumer Protection Department. K. Nanthakumar, previously the Commissioner of School Education, has been transferred to the Human Resources Management (HRM) department as its Secretary.

Mythili K. Rajendran, the current Secretary of HRM, will take over the role of Commissioner of Indian Medicine and Homeopathy, replacing S. Ganesh. Mr. Ganesh, on the other hand, has been appointed as the Director of Economics and Statistics. It’s worth noting that Vikram Kapur, the Additional Chief Secretary of Planning and Development, was temporarily holding this position in addition to his existing responsibilities.
