G20


Gujarat is hosting the next round of G20 talks from today i.e March 27, to April 4. Three conclaves on various topics will be held on which delegates from different countries will converge for participation.

India presently leads the Group of 20 (G20), which is made up of 19 nations from different continents and the European Union, for a whole year (EU). The first meeting of the “Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG)” will take place between March 27 and 29 in Gandhinagar, according to IAS officer Mona Khandhar, who is in charge of planning G20 events in Gujarat. “This is the second meeting of the ECSWG. It will be launched by G20 Sherpa Amitabh Kant in front of several prominent officials of the federal government and subject area experts “said Khandhar, Principal Secretary of the State Finance Department (Economic Affairs).

She told reporters that some of these luminaries include G Ashok Kumar, Director General of the Mission for Clean Ganga, and Leena Nandan, Secretary, the Ministry of Environment, Forests & Climate Change; Debashree Mukherjee, Additional Secretary – Water Resources; and Ministry of Jal Shakti. The senior bureaucrat announced that participants would also include representatives from the Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services, the Central Water Commission, the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the National Centre for Sustainable Coastal Management (NCSCM), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the United Nations Environment Programme.


The three-day event will feature participants from roughly 30 nations, including the US, Argentina, Brazil, China, France, and Germany, according to Khandhar. Discussions on “Best Practices on Water Resources” and other related subjects will take place on the first day. Later, visitors will be transported to the well-known Adalaj Stepwell, the Sabarmati Riverfront, and the Narmada canal syphon. On March 28, technical workshops would be held on five priority areas: resource efficiency and the circular economy, water sanitation and hygiene, climate change mitigation, and climate-resilient infrastructure.

According to the IAS officer, technical workshops will be held on March 29 on subjects like marine spatial planning, conservation of marine and coastal ecosystems, sustainable blue economy, and oceans.

The second meeting in this series on the subject of “Disaster Management” will be held in Gandhinagar from March 30 to April 1, according to a press release from the PIB (Press Information Bureau).

In January and February, Gujarat had hosted a series of meetings related to G20, one of them on tourism.
