Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday inaugurated the 108th Indian Science Congress (ISC) in Nagpur. PM Modi said India is now one of the top three countries in the world when it comes to the number of PhD research works and startup ecosystems.

Inaugurating the event via video conferencing, Prime Minister Modi said that the nation is currently rated 40th on the Global Innovation Index 2022, up from 81st in 2015, and emphasised that scientific advancements should eventually create the nation atmanirbhar.

The theme of this year’s Indian Science Congress is “Science and Technology for Sustainable Development with Women Empowerment,” and it will highlight the accomplishments of female scientists and young inventors from across the nation.

The prime minister also emphasised the growing significance of data collection and analysis, as well as the value of combining traditional and modern expertise. “When the spirit of national service gets infused in science along with passion, results are unprecedented. The scientific community in India, I am confident, will ensure that our nation receives the recognition that it has long been due.” PM Modi added.

“India has been given the chance to lead the G20. One of the topics the chair has taken on with high priority is women-led development. India has undertaken incredible tasks in the last eight years in the areas of governance, society, and economics, which are currently being discussed around the globe. Women have demonstrated their strength in companies and small industries through the Mudra Yojana. Women’s involvement in extramural research and development has doubled; this growth in female involvement is evidence of the nation’s progress in both science and women’s issues,” he said.
