Vikas Kumar


In a recent move, the Government of India has nodded to the appointment of Vikas Kumar as Managing Director (MD) of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC). According to the orders, Kumar will take over the charge from the incumbent MD of DMRC Dr Mangu Singh who is slated to demit the office on March 31.

The 1988-Batch Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer, Kumar, will assume the office of MD, DMRC on 1st April 2022, and hold the charge for a tenure of five years. At present, he is serving as the Director of Operations, DMRC.

As per a letter from the Deputy Secretary to the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) Yogesh Antil, informing the proposal for Kumar’s appointment, read, “I am directed to convey the concurrences of this Ministry to the proposal of the Government of NCT of Delhi for the appointment of Vikas Kumar as the Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Pvt Limited (DMRC) for a period of five years with effect from April 1.”


Kumar was picked from a shortlist of 26 candidates for the top post in DMRC by the selection committee. The file was then sent to the Union government for final approval. Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia chaired the selection committee. Delhi’s Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot, Additional Chief Secretary of Delhi and an independent expert were part of the selection committee.

Gahlot took to Twitter to announce Kumar’s appointment as the new MD of DMRC. His tweet read, ”Heartiest congratulations & best wishes to Sh. Vikas Kumar on being appointed as the new MD of @OfficialDMRC. The metro is Delhi’s lifeline and I hope that DMRC, under your capable guidance, continues to set new benchmarks in top quality public transport. (sic)”

After Dr. Singh, Kumar will be the third Managing Director of DMRC.
