In a noteworthy step to aid consumers under the Patliputra division, the Patna Electricity Supply Undertaking (PESU) has launched a dedicated helpline number – 9264454456 – to answer complaints and address queries related to smart meters.

As reported by a national daily, executive engineer Manish Kant said, “The helpline number will be operational on all working days during the office hours from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. It will extend services to address queries related to prepaid energy meters under the Patliputra division.” Also, grievances pertaining to prepaid meters can be filed on another helpline number 1912.

The Patliputra division took up a one-day workshop to enhance awareness among its engineers and staffers on providing better services to consumers.

The workshop saw presentations from experts from Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) and EDF. In the workshop, engineers were detailed about the functionality and billing procedure of prepaid meters. Also, they were told about the methods of effectively disposing of consumer complaints, said a government statement.

In order to tackle the issue of consumers not paying the electricity bills, the Government of Bihar has taken a decision to install prepaid smart meters across the state in a phased manner. On the prepaid meters row, Chief Minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar had earlier announced that there would be no shortage of funds for the installation of prepaid meters.
