On June 30, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation again. In his speech, he announced an extension of Pradhan Mantri Gareeb Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) till November 2020. The move is taken following considering the relief to the poor during the festival season amid the coronavirus crisis. PMGKAY is a key government scheme brought in action to distribute free ration to 80 crore people.
Moreover, the Government of India is set to put in Rs 90,000 crore on expanding the free ration scheme till the month of November, said the PM in his address. He also accredited farmers and taxpayers for playing a crucial role in the fight against the Coronavirus that has infected over 5.6 lakh people in India.
