Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) is making every effort possible to complete the civil construction work of the Kanpur Metro Project within the stipulated time frame and these efforts are also paying off. The number of workers working under the project has crossed the mark of 1000 today. The civil construction work of the Kanpur metro project is currently divided into two main parts; the Casting Yard and the Corridor (IIT to Motijheel) under the first part and the Metro depot located at the Polytechnic campus under the second one. 838 workers are engaged in the ongoing work under the Casting Yard and Corridor and 168 workers are engaged in the work at the Metro Depot.
While showing a sense of achievement, UPMRC’s Managing Director Kumar Keshav said, “It is a wonderful achievement by UPMRC project team at Kanpur Metro Project. It has been only one month and twenty days since we commenced civil construction work on the priority section of the project starting with nominal labour at the site. I am happy to share that only with our zeal and determination against a very difficult time on account of COVID-19 pandemic, the labor force has crossed the figure of 1000.”
Permanent labour camps are being constructed for labourers inside the Casting Yard. 104 rooms are to be prepared as labour camps, out of which around 70 rooms have been already prepared. Considering social distancing factor, accommodation for only seven labourers/per room is permitted currently, although the room has the space for 10 labourers. The number of labourers is continuously increasing and recently, more than half of the workers deputed for construction work are from the state only.
