UP Govt to provide employment to 5 lakh stranded workers

In an effort to aid the stranded migrant workers in the State of Uttar Pradesh, the State Government, on April 19, decided to constitute a committee to provide employment to as many as 5 lakh stranded workers who are stuck in the state from the past 45 days due to the lockdown implemented to prevent the COVID-19 outbreak.

Awanish K Awasthi, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, on April 19, said, “In a meeting today, the Chief Minister ordered to set up a committee aimed at providing employment to 5 lakh workers who have come to the state in the last 45 days from different parts of the country.” The move would be a ray of hope for the daily waged workers who have been stranded from their families in different states without and work due to lockdown and no money.

The State, on April 18,  had also announced Rs 1,000 each as an aid to destitute people, including to those who were left out in both urban and rural areas amidst the lockdown.
