Dr Ujjwal Kumar, the Commissioner of Municipal Corporation of Prayagraj has been appointed as the District Magistrate of Maharajganj with immediate effect.

The 2012-Batch officer has taken over the post from Amar Nath Upadhyay (2010-Batch). The appointment order was issued on Monday, after the State government suspended Upadhyay a sub-divisional magistrate (SDM), a former SDM, a chief veterinary officer and a veterinary officer for negligence in cow protection.

Prior to holding the post of Municipal Commissioner, Prayagraj, Dr Kumar was the Director of Information & Public Relations Department, Uttar Pradesh.

Earlier, he has also held the posts of Municipal Corporation, Matura-Vrindavan; Chief Development Officer of Moradabad and Manipuri and Joint Magistrate of Muzaffar Nagar.

Hailing from Jharkhand, Dr Kumar has pursued a Masters in Veterinary Science.
