Bhola Nath Shukla has taken charge as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL). His appointment has been a Personnel Ministry order, made for a period up to October 31, 2020, i.e. the day date of his superannuation.
Shukla was received by O P Singh, Director (Technical/Operations) in the presence o L N Mishra, Senior Advisor, General Managers/HoDs and Union Representatives and a large number of employees, inspected the Guard of Honour on his arrival at company headquarters.
Prior to joining MCL, Shukla was the Director (Technical) of Central Mine Planning and Design Institute Limited. He has over 37 years of experience in coal industry. He was also the Director (Technical), Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), Asansol (West Bengal).
During his earlier stint at MCL, Shukla had held appointments in the coalfields as well as at the headquarters. While serving as Area General Manager of Hingula and Bharatpur areas in the Talcher coalfields, he had managed rehabilitation and resettlement issues, leading the units to a new growth trajectory.
As a General Manager (Corporate Planning & Projects), he was instrumental in company’s new initiatives into energy sector and infrastructure development for coal mining and despatch.
Shukla is an alumnus of IIT (Banaras Hindu University) and IIT (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad A mining engineering graduate from IIT (BHU) from where he pursued Mining Engineering and M.Tech in Opencast Mining respectively. He is credited for introduction of innovative technologies into coal mining.
