To make e-governance work in India there is a need to develop integrated systems in place of the existing independent modules, according to experts.
While highlighting different aspects of the subject during a one-day workshop on “e- governance and National E- Governance Plan” organised by the Computer Centre, Panjab University, experts stressed that while the young and urban population has become extremely demanding, there is still a resistance among the rural population towards the e-governance platforms.
While speaking on the e- governance facilities available in the education sector, Professor Renu Vij from the University Institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET) said: “The students have become extremely tech-savvy these days and it has become a challenging task for the faculty to meet their expectations. Although there are many e- governance platforms available, there is a need for integrated systems rather than the existing independent modules so as to make the concept successful. “
Sonal Chawla, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science, PU informed: “E- governance has made a marginal impact on the level of corruption due to lack of motivation among the top level officials to root out the menace. Moreover, the e-governance facilities have been introduced in parts in the country and there is a need for a holistic approach so that even the rural can relate with the concept. “
