India to set up One Stop Crisis Centers for women

These centres , to be set up initially at 100 locations across the country, will tackle with the incidents of violence against women at Home and Workplace

1Hyderabad: Union Women and Child Development Minister Krishna Tirath has said 100 “One Stop Crisis Centers for Women” will be setup soon to tackle with the incidents of violence against women at Home and Workplace.

Speaking at the First Regional Consultation on National Plan of Action for Improving Child Sex Ratio in Hyderabad today, the Minister said these One Stop Centers will be set up at 100 districts across the country and made operational from the next financial year.

Stating that the Centers will be located at Hospitals and headed by senior Doctors, she said they will have a team of eight to ten persons including lawyers, doctors, counselors, police officers and support staff. The minister has asked the southern states to identify the places of the centers and strengthen the State Resource Centre for Women.

Stating that the dwindling Child Sex Ratio is causing concern and posing a national threat, the Minister underlined the need for creating awareness among different sections of people.

She said a Mass Movement will be undertaken with the help of “Ahimsa Messengers” in coordination with all stakeholders at grass roots level.

She also said a new Scheme called “Saksham” is being worked out to provide adolescent boys gender sensitization and orientation about women issues.
