Fresh DoT (India) guidelines by the DoT for screening licence applications

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has decided to set up a committee for setting up guidelines for scrutiny of companies seeking unified assess service licence (UASL). It is expected that the guidelines would be ready within the next ten days.

DoT has fixed October 1, 2007 as the deadline for applying for UASL licence. Around 140 applications are pending for UASL, which enables companies to provide services across the country. All applications will be scrutinized and limited applications will be selected. DoT stated that the panel would also look into the shareholding of the applicants to see if the existing companies were seeking licences through them. Companies like BPL Ltd, HFCL, Reliance, Cheetah Telecom and S-Tel are among the companies that have applied for UASL licence.
