The Indian Railways is one of the largest railway systems in the world under a single management. It runs 11,000 trains every day. Spread across 67 divisions, it covers 104,000 km of rail track, has over 7,000 railway stations and ferries around 17 million passengers daily.

Tata Consultancy Services has opened a development center TCS Awadh Park in Lucknow, India. The center is the latest addition to the company’s Global Network Delivery Model and has a capacity of 1,500 seats. It will develop and implement software applications for global corporations in countries like USA, Canada, UK, Singapore, and South Africa. It will also support e-governance initiatives in the states of UP and Uttarakhand as well as select projects for Government of India.

Uttar Pradesh (UP) government has invited global tenders for implementing the high-security number plate scheme for motor vehicles in the state. This step has come about in the wake of Cabinet’s approval for implementing this high-security number plate scheme for motor vehicles in the state through public-private partnership. It had also arranged a pre-bid conference of manufacturers and vendors on February, 2009 in Lucknow.
