DoT seeks Cabinet nod for INR 9,970cr defence network
DoT has sought Cabinet sanction for INR 9,970-crore optic fibre communications network for the defence forces. The forces will migrate a bulk of their communication systems to this alternate network, being built by state-owned telcos BSNL and MTNL.
DOT to Set up National Internet Registry

Phone Numbers to have 11 digits from Jan 2010
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT), GoI plans to increase the digits for both fixed-line and mobile phone numbers to 11. The implementation for mobile phones would be as early as January, 2010.
