Singapore’s seaport to get WiMax
The Government of Singapore is planning to build a wireless broadband network within 15 kilometers from Singapore’s southern coastline. It is expected that the project would be completed by early 2008.

Railtel (India) OFC communication network to cover 5000 railway stations
RailTel Corporation of India a public sector undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of Railways, is planning to extend its Optical Fibre Communication (OFC) network from about 2900 railway stations covering 30000 route kms at present to 5000 railway stations in the country covering 45000 route kms in order to provide bandwidth and multi-media services.
Rajasthan plans urban information system
The Rajasthan Government (India) has decided to establish the Rajasthan Urban Information System (RUIS) comprising Rajasthan Urban Planning System (RUPS) and Rajasthan Urban Management System (RUMS).
NDMC, India to computerise birth and death records
New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) of India will soon be able to provide computerised records of birth and death certificates from 1928 to 1995 on its portal. Citizens can view these records on its portal.
Vodafone liable to pay tax to Government of India
The Income Tax Department of the Government of India has sent a notice to Vodafone, seeking around US$ 1.7 billion as capital gains tax related to the sale of Hutchison Telecom International Ltd’s (HTIL) 67 per cent stake in Hutch-Essar, now renamed Vodafone-Essar. However, the Vodafone has contested this notice and approached the Bombay High Court.

Estonia urges for cooperation against cyber crimes
While addressing the General Assembly of the United Nations, Estonian President Toomas Hendrik has said that the international community should step up its efforts to defeat cyber crime, by enacting comprehensive law of cyberspace. Cyber attacks prove contemporary asymmetrical threats to security. In the future, it is expected that the cyber attacks may in the hands of criminals or terrorists become a considerably more widespread and dangerous weapon than they are at present. However, the threat posed by cyber attacks was often underestimated because they have so far not resulted in the loss of any lives and many attacks are not publicized for security reasons.
Dubai Municipality in e-Government initiative
So far, the Dubai Municipality has processed more than 3.3 million transactions electronically since the launch of the Government programme in 2001 at an average of 90,000 transactions per month.

The Malta Government has launched the myGov.mt portal to include better accessibility of e-Government services.
Offices to be paperless in Karnataka (India)
The Karnataka Government will launch the ‘paperless office’ concept in its IT & BT department in cooperation with software giant, Microsoft. The concept will be introduced on a trial basis in the IT/BT Department and will be subsequently extended to other departments.
