The Chandigarh administration has reached out to the Punjab government, requesting an extension for two Punjab cadre IAS officers currently serving in key positions within the city. Vijay Namdeorao Zade (2002 batch), who serves as the finance secretary (UT), and Ms. Anindita Mitra, the commissioner of Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, are the officers whose extension has been sought.

Vijay Namdeorao Zade, who assumed the role of finance secretary in May 2021, oversees various departments, including excise and taxation, engineering, housing, and more. His term is expected to end in May 2024. Meanwhile, Anindita Mitra, posted on inter-cadre deputation from the Punjab cadre to the AGMUT cadre (Chandigarh segment) since August 2021, also serves as the chief executive officer of Chandigarh Smart City Ltd. Her three-year term was initially set to conclude in August 2024.

The extension proposal, if approved by the Punjab government, will be forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs for final approval from the Central Government.
