At the UNDP awards ceremony, Abhishek Singh, under the ambit of the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology was lauded with the Future of Government Leadership Award for his meticulous contribution to multiple government projects. Abhishek Singh holds multiple key roles within India’s digital governance landscape, serving as the President and CEO of the National E-Governance Division (NeGD), as well as the MD and CEO of the Digital India Corporation, and CEO of Karmayogi Bharat. His leadership has been instrumental in accelerating the growth of India’s digital public infrastructure. Notable initiatives under his guidance include DIKSHA, which facilitates national school education digitally; Karmayogi Bharat, aimed at regulatory reforms through continuous upskilling of government officials; CoWIN, the digital platform pivotal in administering COVID-19 vaccinations to over a billion people; and DigiLocker, enabling the secure sharing of six billion electronic documents.

On receiving the prestigious award Abhishek took to LinkedIn to express his gratitude stating “I have been fortunate to be part of teams that have been implementing some of these programs”. He added, “The teams at NeGD, DIC and Karmayogi Bharat are the ones who truly deserve this award”. Moreover, he congratulated other commended nominees from Kazakhstan and Nigeria.

Abhishek’s leadership has been pivotal in driving and spearheading digital transformation on a significant scale. Under his stewardship, India effectively harnessed digital tools to execute one of the world’s largest vaccination campaigns amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. Furthermore, the country swiftly embraces artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies. Abhishek has also overseen the establishment of an extensive online learning platform offering over 800 courses to enhance the skills of civil servants.

The endeavours of Abhishek and other digital leaders underscore the critical importance of ensuring that the public sector can readily access the requisite talent to navigate and leverage emerging technologies effectively.
