Adani Group, Maharashtra

In a major development, the Adani Group announced a massive investment of INR 50,000 crore over the next decade for the establishment of a cutting-edge 1 GW data center in Maharashtra. The conglomerate revealed its ambitious plan on Wednesday, underscoring its commitment to the project at the World Economic Forum 2024 in Davos.

The flagship company of the Adani Group, Adani Enterprises Ltd, formalized this significant undertaking through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Maharashtra government. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani were present at the MoU signing ceremony, marking a strategic collaboration for the development of a hyperscale data infrastructure.

The state-of-the-art data center, slated for key locations like Mumbai or Navi Mumbai and Pune, is set to boast a capacity of 1 GW and will rely on renewable energy sources. This move not only aims to bolster green energy infrastructure in Maharashtra but is also anticipated to generate direct and indirect employment for approximately 20,000 individuals.

The Adani Group has expressed its intention to channel deemed distribution investments to power this groundbreaking data center infrastructure. Recognizing the economic and social benefits of the hyperscale project, the Maharashtra government is actively supporting the initiative as part of its broader strategy to promote information technology-related infrastructure and services.

Mumbai’s remarkable transition from a modest renewable energy contributor to a global leader in clean energy adoption is highlighted in this venture. With a renewable energy share surpassing that of major global cities, Mumbai is poised to further its sustainability goals, aligning seamlessly with India’s broader renewable energy targets.
