The Government of India and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have joined forces in a significant effort to improve road connectivity and resilience in the state of Madhya Pradesh. In a formal ceremony held yesterday, a loan agreement worth $175 million was signed to fund the “Enhancing Connectivity and Resilience of the Madhya Pradesh Road Network Project.

The official signatories to this crucial agreement were Ms. Juhi Mukherjee, Joint Secretary of the Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance for the Government of India, and Mr. Takeo Konishi, Country Director of ADB’s India Resident Mission.

Ms. Mukherjee, expressing her views on the project, emphasized its potential to enhance connectivity across 14 districts within Madhya Pradesh, facilitating balanced economic development across the state.

ADB has a longstanding commitment to supporting road development in Madhya Pradesh, having upgraded more than 9,000 kilometers of state highways and major district roads since 2002. According to Mr. Konishi, this new project continues these efforts and aims to establish roads that are not only better and safer but also more climate-resilient.
