Uttarakhand CM inaugurates ‘Bal Mitra’ police station

Chief Minister of Uttarakhand, Trivendra Singh Rawat inaugurated the first children-friendly (Bal Mitra) police station in Dalanwala area of Uttarakhand and also announced a relief fund of Rs 1 crore to help street children and orphans under the initiative. The move is aimed to curb crime against children and create a fear-free environment for them.

As per a statement from the Chief Minister’s Office, the CM called this initiative a ‘new beginning’ and a noteworthy step towards the welfare of children. Also, he mentioned that children are very sensitive and gets adapted to the type of surrounding and environment they are in, therefore it is important for children to have a better environment.

Moreover, the state government also announced reservations in government services. Five per cent reservation has been earmarked for impoverished children and four per cent reservation for the differently-abled.

As reported by a national daily, Usha Negi, Chairperson, Child Protection Rights Commission (CPRC), said that Bal Mitra police stations will be opened in all 13 districts of the state with the help of the police. Also, counselling sessions for the children will also be arranged at these stations. As much as Rs 13 lakh has been allocated to the police department for this initiative.
