Somesh Kumar appointed as Telangana Chief Secretary

The Government of Telangana led by K Chandrashekhar Rao, has appointed Somesh Kumar as the Chief Secretary of the state. Kumar, a 1989-Batch officer was the Special Chief Secretary, Department of Revenue, Commercial Taxes and Excise, Telangana.

Kumar has succeeded SK Joshi, who retired as the Telangana Chief Secretary on Tuesday on attaining superannuation. The Andhra Pradesh cadre officer will have tenure of four years, from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2023.

Kumar has held various key posts such as Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) Commissioner, Tribal Welfare Department Head among others.

He has made key contribution in the introduction of Rs 5-a-meal, launch of the Strategic Road Development Plan and ST Entrepreneurship Innovation Initiative to name a few.


He has also served as Sub-Collector of Bodhan and Nizamabad, and Collector of Anantapur district during his early phase of career.

Kumar is the fifth Chief Secretary of Telangana after Rajiv Sharma, Katti Pradeep Chandra, SP Singh and SK Joshi.

Hailing from Bihar, Kumar has pursued Post Graduation in Psychology from University of Delhi.
