Two veteran bureaucrats, who were known for their massive contribution to the society, one for social justice of depressed classes and the other for electoral reforms in the country, passed away in New Delhi on Sunday.
TN Seshan, former Chief Election Commissioner passed away at the age of 87 due to a cardiac arrest.
Seshan was the man behind the formulation of electoral reforms and enforcement of Model Code of Conduct Seshan was 10th Chief Election Commissioner. Seshan, 1955-Batch officer belonged to the Tamil Nadu cadre. He also served as the 18th Cabinet Secretary of India in 1989. In 1996, he also won the Ramon Magsaysay Award for his services to the government.
PS Krishnan, Former Union Secretary, 86, passed away in New Delhi on Sunday. He was regarded as the crusader of social justice in India. Krishnan was born in Thiruvananthapuram to an upper-caste Hindu family.
Krishnan was selected to IAS in 1956 in Andhra Pradesh cadre. He was massively involved in working for the Adivasis, Dalits, minorities and other oppressed communities. He also worked in the formation of B P Mandal Commission that sets 27 percent job reservation for OBCs. He also headed the social welfare ministry. He also played a major role in the formulation and granting of constitutional status to the National Commission for the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes, and the SC and ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
Leaders across the country have paid tribute to the deceased officers, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
