Hardeep Singh Puri given Civil Aviation, Commerce and Industry Ministries along with existing post

Hardeep Singh Puri, Minister of State (Independent Charge), has been named the Minister of State for Civil Aviation and Commerce and Industry. Along with that, he will continue to hold the position of Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs.

In the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections, he lost in the Amritsar constituency to Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla.

Puri has taken over the posts of MoS Civil Aviation from Jayant Sinha and that of the Commerce and Industry from Suresh Prabhu.

Prior to assuming the ministry, Puri has serves as the Joint Secretary to the Government of India and Ministry of External Affairs and Ministry of Defence. He also served as the chairman of the United Nations Security Council Counter-Terrorism Committee, President of United Nations Security Council and Chief Patron National Real Estate Development Council.


An alumnus of Hindu College, Delhi, he has also served as lecturer in St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi.
