RITES CMD Rahul Mithal Gets Extension Till June 2027

Rahul Mithal has been granted an extension as Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of RITES Limited until his superannuation on June 30, 2027.

The decision was communicated by the Ministry of Railways through a letter dated August 20, 2026. Mithal’s existing tenure as CMD was scheduled to end on October 5, 2026.

Five-Year Tenure Extended

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) had appointed Rahul Mithal as CMD of RITES Limited for a five-year term on October 5, 2021.


With the latest decision, he will continue to lead the public sector engineering and consultancy company beyond the original end date of his tenure and remain in the position until his superannuation on June 30, 2027.

Mithal Has Experience in Rail Sector

Before taking charge as CMD of RITES, Rahul Mithal was serving as Director (Project & Services) at Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR).

He had held the position since September 2017, bringing experience in projects and services within the railway and logistics sector.

Continuity in RITES Leadership

The extension will provide continuity in the leadership of RITES as the company continues to undertake projects and provide consultancy and engineering services in India and international markets.

As a railway-sector public sector enterprise under the Ministry of Railways, RITES plays a role in areas including transport infrastructure, engineering consultancy and project management.

Rahul Mithal to Continue Till June 2027

With the extension, Rahul Mithal will continue as CMD of RITES Limited until June 30, 2027, subject to applicable government orders.

The decision ensures continued leadership at the company through the remainder of his service tenure.
