The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the appointment of Akshay Tripathi (IAS) as Private Secretary to Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Jual Oram in the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
According to an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) on August 7, Tripathi has been appointed at the Deputy Secretary level for a period of five years from the date he assumes charge.
His tenure will be co-terminus with the Minister’s tenure, or until he ceases to function as Private Secretary or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
2014-Batch IAS Officer from Uttar Pradesh Cadre
Akshay Tripathi is a 2014-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre. He is currently serving as District Magistrate and Collector of Bahraich.
The DoPT has directed the Uttar Pradesh Government to relieve him of his present responsibilities so that he can take up his new assignment at the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
Strong Administrative Background
Tripathi holds a B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from Harcourt Butler Technological Institute (HBTI), Kanpur. He secured All India Rank 4 in the UPSC Civil Services Examination.
Before joining the IAS, he briefly worked as an Assistant Materials Manager in the Indian Railways.

During his administrative career, Tripathi has held several important positions in Uttar Pradesh.
His previous assignments include:
- District Magistrate, Lalitpur
- Special Secretary, Uttar Pradesh IT & Electronics Department
- Managing Director, Uttar Pradesh Electronics Corporation Limited (UPLC)
- Vice Chairman, Lucknow Development Authority
- Municipal Commissioner, Kanpur Nagar
He has also been recognised for his work in public administration and received the Prime Minister’s Award for Excellence in Public Administration for his “Swachh Bhavishya” initiative.

New Role in Ministry of Tribal Affairs
As Private Secretary to Minister Jual Oram, Tripathi will support the Minister in coordinating official work, policy matters and administrative responsibilities within the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
His experience in district administration, urban development, technology and public service delivery is expected to be useful in his new central government assignment.
