Mumbai: The Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has been awarded the third prize in the e-Governance (e-Office) category at the state-level Rajiv Gandhi Prashaskiya Gatimanata (Pragati) Campaign and Competition for 2025–26.

The recognition comes for the civic body’s work in implementing digital governance systems. A total of 29 municipal corporations from across Maharashtra participated in the competition, with MBMC securing the third position.

The award was presented on April 21, 2026, by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Municipal Commissioner Radhabinod A. Sharma received the award on behalf of the corporation. The award includes a memento, certificate and a cash prize of ₹4 lakh.

MBMC has implemented the e-Office system developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) under the Government of India’s Digital India programme. The corporation completed 100% implementation of the system across all departments within 60 days, becoming the first municipal corporation in Maharashtra to do so. The initiative has also received certification from NIC.

With the rollout of the e-Office system, all routine administrative functions, including correspondence, file movement, approvals and record management, are being carried out in digital mode. The system allows secure storage, easy retrieval and real-time access to information.

According to official data, more than 1.49 lakh receipts (letters) and over 8,800 files have been processed digitally so far. Nearly 90% of receipts are being disposed of within three days, while the average file disposal time has been reduced to seven days.

As part of process re-engineering, the number of approval stages has been reduced from 20–25 levels earlier to 4–5 levels. The system also includes real-time monitoring through management information systems (MIS), digital signatures and Aadhaar-based authentication for approvals, and digital financial management processes.

The civic body stated that the adoption of a paperless office system has led to savings in paper, time and operational costs, resulting in financial savings of over ₹4 crore. Regular training sessions are being conducted for officers and staff to ensure continued and effective use of the system.

Officials said the initiative has enabled faster processing, improved transparency and better accountability in administrative work. All processes are now trackable and time-bound, which has helped in improving service delivery to citizens. The corporation said the model can be replicated by other urban local bodies for digital governance.
